“I got you. Tell me what you see.”

“I see a city. Tall buildings. Lots of lights. It’s dark in the sky. There’s a small child with her dad. They’re looking up and pointing at a jellyship. There’s a crowd gathering.”

“Does the place look familiar?”

“No, not really. There’s a sign with Asian lettering but I can’t make it out.”

“Somewhere in Asia?”

“Maybe? I don’t know.”

“You’ve never been to Asia?”

“Mōnu!” Jericho opened his eyes. “I’m sorry I can’t recognize -all- of Asia from a picture in my mind.”

Mōnu laughed. They were floating in the waters of Hanahau’oli Bay, off the shores of Kui’kapu’u Valley, the site of the voyager complex. He was holding onto Jericho tightly in the water, partly in case the channeling went bad, and partly because skin contact was his preferred method of transferring mana. Jericho felt his mana was strongest in the water, so they were meeting half way.

The embrace was lingering a little too long, and Jericho broke contact, putting space and ocean between them.

“So is this how you guys find out where to go next?” asked Jericho.

“Not always,” replied Mōnu, “but it saves us a lot of time and fiddling if someone’s got the Sight.”

“You think I’m a Seer?”

“It’s too soon to tell what you might be good at, Jerry Boy. But when you were tele-piloting that ship the other day, you were able to see yourself—both your body and your mind. Not everyone can do that, and certainly not on their first try.”

“Yeah, and you were also holding me with your spirit like you were just now.”

“You’re a natural with overlay. That’s a Seer’s trait for sure!”

“Mōnu, are you gay?”

Mōnu laughed.

“You’re just gonna ask me flat out like that?”

“You keep looking at me and touching me like you wanna f*k me or something. It’s kinda making me uncomfortable.”

Mōnu looked away.

“Oh brother man, I’m sorry. I guess I made the wrong assumption.”

“It’s just… Can you like, maybe ask first? You can’t just do whatever you want.”

“No problemo, boss!” said Mōnu, treading water, “you still wanna join my crew?”

“Yeah, I do. Listen, when we touch mana, it feels good, it just feels super intimate, and, well… I don’t know if my girlfriend will be cool with that.”

Mōnu laughed, covering his eyes with his hand.

“Why do I always get the straight ones??”

“I never said that. I just said I don’t know what my girlfriend would think. She’s not Hapahe’e.”

“Well, I never met her, so you let me know if you guys need to talk it over. I do know that yeah, my mana is sexual, it’s what comes natural to me, and if you want me to be more polite about it, I’ll respect your boundaries.”

“Please.”

Jericho held out his hand, as if to imply, “let’s shake on it.” Mōnu did so, and Jericho swam in closer for a hug.

“Race you to the shore,” said Jericho, smiling, and dove underwater.
